Competition can pressure newcomers to send every document immediately. A better approach is to prepare a staged file and disclose personal information only when the request and recipient are credible.
Common evidence
Landlords may ask for proof of income, identification, a credit record and confirmation that previous rent is clear. New arrivals may need to explain why a German credit history is unavailable and offer suitable alternatives.
Redact unrelated account transactions and identifiers where they are not needed. Never send money merely to secure a viewing, and verify who controls the property before paying a deposit.
Read the contract, not the listing
Check the rent components, deposit, term, notice provisions, included furniture and permission to register. If a clause has legal consequences you do not understand, use a tenants’ association or qualified lawyer; relocation guidance is not a substitute.
